[u]Argumento contra Newton[/u]

En su nuevo libro, titulado en inglés 'The Grand Design' ('El Gran Diseño') y que sale a las librerías el 9 de septiembre, una semana antes de la visita del Papa a Gran Bretaña, Hawking sostiene que la moderna ciencia no deja lugar a la existencia de un Dios creador del Universo.

En esa obra, escrita junto con el físico estadounidense Leonard Mlodinow, Hawking rechaza, según el adelanto periodístico, la hipótesis de Isaac Newton según la cual el Universo no puede haber surgido del caos gracias sólo a las leyes de la naturaleza sino que tuvo que haber intervenido Dios en su creación.

Según Hawking, el primer golpe asestado a esa teoría fue la observación en 1992 de un planeta que giraba en órbita en torno a una estrella distinta de nuestro Sol.

"Eso hace que las coincidencias de las condiciones planetarias de nuestro sistema -la feliz combinación de distancia Tierra-Sol y masa solar- sean mucho menos singulares y no tan determinantes como prueba de que la Tierra fue cuidadosamente diseñada (por Dios) para solaz de los humanos", escribe Hawking.

[b]Múltiples universos[/b]

Según Hawking, que fue hasta el año pasado profesor de matemáticas de la universidad de Cambridge, puesto que ocupó en su día el propio Newton, es probable que existan no sólo otros planetas, sino también otros universos, es decir un multiuniverso.
